...the first adventure for 2011

Hello all,

I know its been a long time since we wrote last but alot has happened in the last 3 weeks. We just got back from holidays.

It was really good spending time together. Something I really appreciated is going to bed together and waking up together every morning. With Josh working away and me having ridiculous hours at work this is not something we always get to do. So to be able to wake up next to each other was so great.

We spent the majority of our holiday in a town called Vang Vieng in Laos. Laos is a country next to Thailand and Vietnam. Map below because I am not the best at explaining where it is:)

Vang Vieng is this beautiful little town in a Valley near a river. It was crazy to wake up every morning walk outside and see these massive Jurassic Park-esque mountains. The people are so lovely and you dont even have to barter. Something I was super impressed with because 1) I hate bartering and 2) I am epic-ly bad at it. Everything was so so cheap. Especially the food. Which was probably one of my favourite parts. Cant decide what you want to eat thats okay just order both:) We found this awesome little curry place by the end of our time there. Swear we had dinner there like 5 times... and by dinner I mean a feast!!

Something amazing that we did was go Hot Air Ballooning for Valentines Day. Even though it was the day before. Being in Vang Vieng is like being in a time warp and so I thought I was booking for Valentines Day but turns out I booked the day before. But nonetheless it was amazing the view was incredible. Hot Air Ballooning is only something new in Vang Vieng so it was cool to see the local kids run after the balloon calling out and waving (and a few adults as well.)

After Vang Vieng we missioned to Bangkok. Something I have learned about myself is that I am not a good traveller. Not only does my boredom kick in but my inability to be able to sleep properly in Buses or Planes. I am truly jealous of those people who can just sit down and fall asleep! But i did it even though it fully took it out of me. So after 24 hours of travelling we finally made it there. I really like Bangkok it has everything you can imagine (except the beach - but we have that at home so it was ok.) Something i loved was that they had these little fresh food carts on the streets. You could get half a pineapple cut up in a bag for 20 Baht which is less than a $1 or corn on a cob for 10 Baht. I loved it... fresh food as soon as you walk out of the hotel.

It was very hard to come home. As we laid in bed preparing to get up and mission it home I literally rolled over and told Joshua that we should stay in bed miss our flights and stay on our adventure forever. But alas reality calls and we had to go home to save for our next adventure.

I will post some photos soon but they are all on Joshuas camera so I have to wait for him to get back. Hope you are all well.

All our love,

Karen and Josh xo
